Overends Kitchen

05/06/2024

Overends Kitchen is found at Airfield Estate, a 38-acre urban farm in Dublin, that aims to be the city’s sustainable food hub, connecting people to their food sources and educating them on sustainable practices. Each year, about 10,000 students visit to learn about agriculture, regenerative farming, soil health and biodiversity through cooking classes and farm tours. Airfield also attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually for interactive learning experiences.

The estate’s organic and regenerative food garden is used by young head chef Isobel Farrelly to create seasonal menu items and to minimize food waste. As a result, Overends Kitchen serves delicious, educational meals that evolve with the harvest.

Voted Dublin's best sustainable restaurant by the Restaurant Association of Ireland, most of Overend Kitchen’s produce, including fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, eggs and herbs, comes directly from the farm, reducing food miles and packaging waste. Even the ice cream is made with the milk from the farm’s cow's milk!

Sustainability is a priority at every stage: leftovers are creatively reused, such as turning unsold focaccia into croutons or incorporating Guinness brown bread into Jersey milk ice-cream. Overends Kitchen at Airfield Estate showcases how sustainably produced food can be delicious, nutritious, and available year-round.
